Boarding information
We have two boarding locations. If you're driving your own vehicle, you can board at Prince of Wales Bay Marina, where you'll find free parking next to the marina. If you're staying near the Hobart downtown and not driving, you can easily walk to the Domain Boat Ramp to board. If you choose a private charter and, for example, are staying on Bruny Island, we can arrange to pick you up from your specified location (please note that additional transfer fees may apply). What sort of fishing charter do you offer?
We offer a range of fishing trips, including inshore bottom fishing for flathead, blue-throat wrasse, gunard perch, australian salmon, pike, squid, white cod, leatherjackets, bastard trumpeter, jackass morwang and more. For offshore fishing, we target striped trumpeter, bluefin tuna, ocean perch, barracuda, and other exciting species. Please note that our regular shared trips are focused on inshore bottom fishing. If you're looking to go offshore for big game fishing or deep sea bottome fishing, feel free to contact us to arrange a private charter booking. What can I expect to see while diving, and is diving gear and a dive guide provided?
Our standard shared diving trips take place at Blackmans Bay, Bonnet Hill, or Opossum Bay. These locations offer the chance to encounter lobsters, abalone, sea urchins, periwinkles, and a variety of marine life, including banded morwong, eels, stingrays, swell sharks, and more. The dive depths range from 7 to 13 meters, with all three sites featuring vibrant coral reefs and remarkable underwater structures. Please note that shared trips do not include a dive guide (private charters include a free dive guide), so you’ll need to bring your own dive buddy. If you’d like to hire a guide, the cost is $150 per trip. We provide air tanks and weights on the boat at no extra charge, but you’ll need to bring your own diving equipment. Since our dive guides and air tanks are limited, they are available upon request on a first-come, first-served basis. If you need these, please include a note when placing your booking, and we’ll contact you to confirm availability. For additional equipment, you can rent from The Dive Shop Hobart or Tasmania Diver Kingston. If you plan to catch lobster or abalone, don’t forget to purchase a recreational fishing license in advance through Tasmania Fisheries. What's included in your rate?
The price includes a skipper and one deckhand, bottled water, hot tea, soft drinks, a fruit platter, all fishing gear, diving cylinders, and weights. You are welcome to keep the fish, lobster, or abalone you catch. Please note that we are unable to provide fish cleaning services due to tight schedules, as we sometimes operate two trips a day with limited turnaround time. However, we’re happy to recommend local restaurants that can cook your catch, including fish, lobster, and abalone. Additionally, our half-day shared trips and private charters include free meals with premium wagyu beef and seafood BBQ. (The 3-hour sightseeing and fishing trip includes a fruit platter only.)What is your refund policy, and what happens if the trip is canceled due to bad weather?
For shared trips, if you need to make changes more than 48 hours in advance, you can either get a full refund or reschedule. If the trip is canceled due to bad weather, we’ll offer a full refund or reschedule. For private charters, cancellations made more than 7 days before the trip will receive a full deposit refund. Cancellations within 7 days but more than 48 hours before the trip will receive a 50% refund or the option to reschedule. No deposit refund is available for cancellations within 48 hours of the trip.Do you offer discounts for children?
For shared trips, children under 6 can join for free, while those aged 6 to 11 receive a half price discount. Children aged 12 and above are charged the full adult price. Please note that all children must be accompanied by a guardian on board. How many passengers can Kylin accommodate?
Kylin is AMSA-certified to carry up to 12 passengers, so private charters can take the full group of 12.Are drinks provided on board? If I book a private charter, can I use the kitchen to cook the fish or seafood I catch, like lobster, abalone, or scallops?
We don't provide alcoholic beverages on board, but you're welcome to BYO with no surcharge. You're also free to use the boat's kitchen facilities—just let us know when you make your booking. What if I get sea sick?
Our shared boat trips mostly take place in calm waters, making them ideal for seniors and children. The boat features a spacious enclosed cabin and offers great stability, so seasickness is uncommon. If you’re prone to motion sickness, let the crew know when you board, and they’ll provide medication to help.Do divers and anglers share the same boat on shared trips? What can anglers do while divers are in the water?
Yes, divers and anglers share the same boat on our trips. The fishing spots are also dive sites, as fish, lobsters, and abalone all live around the same reef structures. While the divers are underwater, you can continue bottom fishing as usual—no need to worry!Do I need a fishing licence?
In Tasmania, no fishing license is required for sea fishing. However, if you're diving for lobster or abalone, you'll need to purchase a recreational fishing license for around $80. You can get it here: Tasmanian Fishing Licenses.
