What to Bring on a Hobart Fishing Trip

A practical checklist for your Hobart fishing or diving trip with Diver's Fishing Charters — what to arrange before you go, what the boat provides, and what to pack for a comfortable day on the water.

  1. Book your trip

Book online through the booking page. Shared trips start from $198 per adult and private charters from $800. Choose your date and trip type, and note any special requests in your booking.

  2. Arrange a licence if you'll dive for lobster or abalone

Sea fishing needs no licence in Tasmania, but diving for lobster or abalone requires a recreational fishing licence (around $80) from Tasmania Fisheries' website. Buy it before your trip.

  3. Tell the crew about dive gear needs

Air tanks and weights are provided on the boat at no charge, but you bring your own dive equipment. A dive guide costs $150 per trip and is available on a first-come, first-served basis — request it in your booking note. You can rent extra equipment from The Dive Shop Hobart or Tasmania Diver Kingston.

  4. Plan food and drink

No alcoholic drinks are sold on board, but BYO is welcome with no surcharge, and you can use the boat's kitchen on private charters. The 3-hour cruise includes a fruit platter; half-day and private trips include a wagyu beef and seafood BBQ meal.

  5. Prepare for seasickness if prone

Trips mostly run in calm waters and the boat has a spacious enclosed cabin, so seasickness is uncommon. If you're prone to motion sickness, tell the crew when you board — they can provide medication.

  6. Know where to board

Shared trips board at Margate Marina, 40 Marina Dr, Barretta TAS 7054, with free parking on site. Private charter guests can arrange custom pick-up, such as from Bruny Island (additional transfer fees may apply).
